Where Hippies & Cowboys Feel Right at Home

What Does "Y'allternative" Mean?

To us, Y'allternative isn't about fitting into one style or another.

It's about celebrating the people who don't.

Maybe you wear cowboy boots with a vintage band tee.

Maybe your home has antique furniture sitting next to handmade pottery.

Maybe you crochet shawls, collect records, decorate with plants, love old trucks, listen to rock music one day and classic country the next.

Maybe you simply appreciate things that are made by hand and full of character.

If that sounds like you...

You're our kind of people.

Why This Theme?

We wanted something that felt perfect for October without becoming another pumpkin-and-plaid event.

Don't get us wrong—we love fall.

But we wanted the market to have a personality all its own.

The Y'allternative Market celebrates creativity, individuality, handmade goods, vintage treasures, small-town charm, and the people who appreciate all of those things.

Whether you're a little hippie...
A little cowgirl...
A little rocker...
Or somewhere in between...

You'll fit right in.

Your Favorite Vendors Are Coming Back

One thing we love about our markets is that shoppers come back looking for the makers they've fallen in love with.

Good news: You can still expect many of your favorite returning vendors to bring the products you've come to know and love. Whether it's handmade crochet, baked goods, home décor, artwork, jewelry, candles, or vintage treasures, they'll still have plenty of their signature items waiting for you.

To make the Y'allternative Market even more fun, we've encouraged our returning vendors to stretch their creativity by adding a few themed products to their booths. Think western-inspired colors, boho touches, rustic décor, fringe, florals, vintage vibes, cowgirl flair, and all the wonderfully unique combinations that make this theme so much fun.

It's not about changing who they are, it's about giving everyone an opportunity to play with the theme in their own creative way.

And of course, we're excited to welcome several new vendors who will bring fresh ideas, products, and talents to downtown Dows.

More Than Just Shopping

Dows Market on Main has never been just about buying things.

It's about slowing down.

Meeting the people who make what they sell.

Visiting with neighbors.

Discovering something you didn't know you needed.

Supporting rural small businesses.

And spending a Saturday in a charming little Iowa town.

We think that's worth celebrating.

If You Missed Our Last Market...

The excitement from Corn Days is still fresh, and we're already looking ahead to what's next!

If you haven't yet, be sure to check out the recap posts from both market organizers to relive the fun, see photos from the day, and hear about some of our favorite memories.

Hayley shares her perspective from HayleyCo Designs, and I share mine from Hippie Stitches by Shannon. Together, they tell the story of a wonderful community event that wouldn't have been possible without our incredible vendors, volunteers, and shoppers.

They're a great way to catch up if you couldn't make it...or to relive the day if you were there!
