I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream!
Here's the scoop, folks.....The Main Scoop will be at the Y'allternative Market on Main on October 10th, 2026 from 10am-2pm!
Kelsey and her family live on an acreage outside of Clarion. She is a devoted farm wife, and mom to 4 very active kids on top of owning and running the local ice cream shop, The Main Scoop. She has always wanted to open her own brick and mortar business, but never knew what that looked like exactly. When the longtime ice cream shop in Clarion closed its doors, she knew there was a need for a new one. That's when she decided THAT would be the business to invest her time in. Kelsey and her husband, Jared, opened up The Main Scoop in July of 2023.
After a successful grand opening, the following spring they refurbished an old ambulance as a mobile ice cream truck, which they affectionately call 'The Emergency Scoop'. ....(I love me a good play on words). With that, they could now bring ice cream TO their customers which is exactly what they intend to do for our Fall Market. Be sure to look for the Loaded Brownie Sundae, which is a huge hit on The Emergency Scoop. You won't ever wonder where to find their ice cream truck as it tends to stand out in the crowd, which was exactly their intention.
They offer a huge variety of locally sourced homemade ice cream from The Olde Creamery in Garner, IA. They make homemade waffle cones and bowls in the shop along with brownies and cookies. Floats, malts and shakes can be made in the shop but only floats on the truck.
With all the ice cream flavors available, Kelsey says that their signature flavor, Salty Cowboy, is definitely the most popular. It's always at the top of the flavor board list. Salty Cowboy is only available at The Main Scoop and The Emergency Scoop Ice Cream Truck. It's something they created alongside The Olde Creamery for a one of a kind flavor experience for their customers. It's a salted caramel base with crushed Oreos, and a chocolate caramel drizzle.
It's not just ice cream either. They offer a variety of goods, including a selection of new and used books, handmade dog bandanas, handmade soft baits (by her 14 year old son), clay earrings hand crafted by Kelsey herself, Beef cuts from the family farm, and hand poured candles from Lovely Co Candles (another small business in Clarion).
The best part of this small town ice cream shop is that it's not just a summer thing. The Main Scoop is open all year round!
When asked what makes their products special, Kelsey says that she knew she wanted a unique take on ice cream (not just generic or store bought) so when she found The Olde Creamery out of Garner, she contacted them right away to see if she could locally-source homemade ice cream. She was going for a nostalgic feel when walking into their shop so she made sure to add some nods to the past along with red and black colors from our CGD community.
Look for The Emergency Scoop to be a huge hit for our fall market. They always offer 8 flavors on the truck plus one dairy-free option, along with the loaded brownie sundae, and she may even have a special fall drink ready to serve up for us....think Apple Cider Float!
You can find The Main Scoop on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. There they post business hours, daily flavors, and any other announcements so be sure to like and follow to stay in the loop with The Main Scoop. Shop location is 106 S Main St in Clarion, IA.
One fun fact about Kelsey is that she is also a registered nurse! This lady has a few hats in the ring, doesn't she?!? She went to nursing school after high school and actually practiced as a nurse for almost 13 years before following her heart and opening a business. She's passionate about growing her small town and investing in the community.
From brownies, bandanas, books, baits, and beef to candles, earrings, and more....you are sure to find something you'll love when you stop at The Main Scoop in Clarion!
We are so excited to welcome The Main Scoop to our Y'allternative Market! Come hungry for lunch and stop and see The Emergency Scoop for dessert! Saturday, October 10th, 2026 from 10am-2pm.
