This vendor really needs no introduction. I've seen Maynard and his wife, Jeanne at several local Markets over the past few years and if you've ever seen their market display, you know it has a way of drawing a crowd! His collection of handcrafted flags and crosses catches your attention from the moment you walk in and has you wanting to buy one in no time at all.
Maynard is a veteran, longtime farmer, and hometown woodworker who spent 50 years farming before turning his attention to a new kind of craftsmanship. He began woodworking in 2023, after finding joy in making custom wooden flags for some veterans he knew. He thought while he was at it, he might as well try to sell some. What began as a way to create something special for fellow veterans grew into a business creating beautiful wooden flags and crosses for others. The details in his work are unmatched, burying a medallion for the recipient's branch of service in the union of the flag, which adds such a meaningful touch to those who sacrifice so much by serving our country.
In addition to the Stars and Stripes, he has added Iowa and Iowa State flags to his resume. Where are my die hard college football fans at? Fight week may be over (Iowa vs ISU), but the football season is just beginning! Wouldn't one of these flags look great in your Hawkeye or Cyclone Man Cave? Be sure to stop by his booth to grab yours!
His favorite product is the classic red, white and blue flag of any size. They come in 12, 18, 24, and 36 inch lengths. So, measure your space, put it in your phone, and get to the Y'allternative Market on Main to grab your favorite flag!
Looking for something geared more towards your faith? He's got you covered there as well. He has crosses, hearts, and he also makes some Christmas items.
Speaking of Christmas, who needs a one of a kind Christmas toy for their child, grandchild, niece or nephew? Maynard will have some custom made toy tractors and pickups available at the Dows Market on October 10th from 10am-2pm.
If you aren't quite ready for Christmas shopping at this Market, you're not alone. I don't even start my Christmas shopping until after Thanksgiving...who's with me? While Maynard will have a handful of Christmas items available for our Market, you will most definitely want to seek them out in future Markets leading up to Christmastime when there will be more seasonal items to choose from.
