We’re excited to welcome Happy Hippie Macrame and More by Missie to the Y’allternative Market on Main on Saturday, October 10!
Meet Melissa (Missie) Niederhauser, the creative force behind Happy Hippie Macrame and More by Missie. Missie is a happily retired bank auditor, and she and her husband, Tom, have four kids, nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
When she’s not creating, Missie and Tom love spending time with family and being by the water, fishing or just soaking in the sun.
From ’70s Macramé to Colorful Mosaic Art
Missie makes and sells macramé plant hangers and wall décor, including peace signs and American flags. She also creates colorful mosaic art using ceramic tiles and embellishments.
Her love of macramé goes way back.
“I’m a 70’s child and loved making macrame projects in my teens.”
About six years ago, Missie was asked to teach several beginner macramé classes, and that was enough to get her started creating again.
She has always loved art and crafts, and more recently added mosaic art to her creative repertoire.
While wintering in Texas two years ago, Missie was fortunate enough to take a mosaic class.
“I was hooked from the start and love creating new and colorful projects.”
And that love of color and creativity definitely comes through in her work.
One-of-a-Kind Creations
Missie says that depending on the show and the attendees, she does very well with the variety of products she offers. She also thinks macramé has made a little surge back in popularity, especially with “younger” buyers - younger at heart, that is!
Her mosaic pieces offer something especially unique.
“My mosaic art is different and unique from things I’ve seen for sale in our area.”
She has also been fortunate enough to have several pieces commissioned.
For the Y’allternative Market, Missie will be bringing new designs that buyers will have the first opportunity to purchase. Her art is one of a kind, so if you see something you love, there may not be another one quite like it!
A Love of Vintage Style
Missie’s creativity and love of colorful, retro design also have some history behind them.
For seven years, she and her husband owned and operated Grammas’ Attic, a mid-century vintage store in Eagle Grove. They continued selling mid-century modern furniture and décor through online avenues after closing the store.
Missie says she has always had a fondness for ’70s décor and vibrant, fun colors, which seems like a pretty perfect fit for Happy Hippie Macrame and More!
She only does a handful of shows throughout the year, so we’re especially happy to have her joining us for the Y’allternative Market on Main.
And this is a great opportunity to see her newest creations in person!
